The Space Shuttle, officially the Space Transportation System, was a reusable orbital spacecraft that flew 135 missions between 1981 and 2011. The programme was marked with success despite the loss of the Challenger and Columbia shuttles. The International Space Station launched in 2000 with international cooperation with the principals being the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan and Canada.
