Introduction

Outlander is an historical drama television series based on the ongoing novel series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon.

Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the show premiered on 09 August 2014, on Starz. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II military nurse in Scotland who, in 1945, finds herself transported back to 1743. There she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a member of Gabaldon’s fictionalised version of Clan Fraser of Lovat, and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite rising.

Outline

Jamie takes Claire and young Ian home to Lallybroch. Claire discovers that Jamie married a twice widowed Laoghaire, who accidentally shoots him during a confrontation. Jamie recovers thanks to the penicillin that Claire has brought. Ned Gowan negotiates a settlement with Laoghaire, and Jamie decides to retrieve the treasure on Silky Isle to pay for it. Young Ian swims to the island in an injured Jamie’s place. Jamie and Claire are horrified to see the boy forcibly taken aboard a ship and carried away after finding the treasure.
