Introduction
Human Weapon is a television show on The History Channel that premiered on 20 July 2007.
The hosts, Jason Chambers and Bill Duff, travelled across the world studying the unique martial arts, or styles of fighting, that have origins in the region.
Outline
Hosts Jason Chambers and Bill Duff plunge into the cradle of civilisation, Athens, Greece, to explore what some thing is the world’s original mixed martial art.
Pankration (Greek: παγκράτιον) was a sporting event introduced into the Greek Olympic Games in 648 BC, which was an empty-hand submission sport with few rules. The athletes used boxing and wrestling techniques, but also others, such as kicking, holds, joint-locks, and chokes on the ground, making it similar to modern mixed martial arts. The term comes from the Greek παγκράτιον [paŋkrátion], meaning “all of power,” from πᾶν (pan) “all” and κράτος (kratos) “strength, might, power.”
