Introduction

The Cazalets is a 2001 six-episode television drama series (5 episodes when broadcast in the US) about the life of a large privileged family in the years 1937 to 1947.

Most of the action takes place in London, and at the family’s large estate in Sussex.

Outline

Zoe gives birth to a baby girl and after a while learns that Rupert has been listed as missing in action. Louise comes home from drama school in trousers leading to a major row with her mother. Louise attends a dinner party hosted by her mother’s friend Hermione where she meets Michael Hadleigh, a successful painter and naval officer considerably older than herself. Sybil’s ulcer seems to be getting worse and is hospitalised for an operation where they find a cancerous tumour. Rachel spends time with her good friend Sid and they finally become lovers.
