Introduction

A 1995 BBC documentary about the British Army’s Royal Military Police.

Outline

When a discrepancy of £450 is discovered in the catering accounts, Staff Sergeant Wright of the Royal Military Police special investigation branch is called in to investigate the matter.

The Redcaps arrest their suspect – the sergeant major- and a trial by general court martial convenes.

It possesses the power to place the sergeant major behind bars, reduce him to the ranks and deprive him of the £60,000 he would receive after 22 years of service. That was money he had intended to use to buy a pub for his retirement.

The missing amount in question is trivial, but the army is traditionally merciless on middle managers it suspects of wrongdoing. But, during a delay in the court’s proceedings, events take a surprising turn.
