Introduction

Sunrise in Heaven is a 2019 American romance film directed by Waymon Boone and written by Dan Benamor.

The film stars Corbin Bernsen, Caylee Cowan, Dee Wallace, Travis Burns, Erin Bethea, and Jenn Gotzon. It is based on the book, His Sunrise My Sunset, a 2016 romance novel by American author Jan Hurst.

Hurst was inspired to write the faith-based book after the car accident that killed her husband, Steve.

Outline

The film is based on the life of Jan Hurst. Jan is the daughter of an overly protective militant father, but that does not stop her from falling love with Steve, a young GI in the Air Force. The couple must find a way to win over her father so they may be married. In the future, a devastating car crash leaves her (now) husband on life support; she must keep faith in God as she faces the prospect of his passing. Recalling their courtship through flashbacks, she relives out the early days of their relationship.

Written by Dan Benamor, Sunrise in Heaven was produced by Dureyshevar, Nat Mundel, Jack Nasser, Jacob Nasser and Joseph Nasser, and line produced by Bochen Zhang. A trailer for the film was released on 06 February 2019. It was released on 09 April 9.

Filming began on 25 June 2018 in Los Angeles, California and was completed on 10 July 2018.

Trivia

• It was originally called “His Sunrise, My Sunset” but renamed after prior to being released.
• Jenna Stone, Aitana Rinab Perez, Annalisa Cochrane, Annalisa Cochrane and Sarah Grey auditioned for the part of Jan Hurst, but the role eventually went to Caylee Cowan after 3 rounds of callbacks.
• The iconic look Jan gives actor Travis Burns who portrays Steve at the end of the in the ‘chow hall’ sequence was demonstrated by the real Jan Hurst to actress Caylee Cowan so she could replicate it on screen.
• Actress Caylee Cowan was hit by a car on route 66 while walking home from an audition on 09 April 2018. Sunrise in Heaven was released 1 year later on 09 April 2019.
