The Expanse is an American science fiction television series developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, based on the series of novels of the same name by James S.A. Corey.
The series is set in a future where humanity has colonised the Solar System. It follows a disparate band of antiheroes – United Nations Security Council member Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), ship’s officer James Holden (Steven Strait) and his crew – as they unwittingly unravel and place themselves at the centre of a conspiracy which threatens the system’s fragile state of Cold War.
Upon Miller’s self-sacrifice, the network is neutralised, ending the fusion shutdown. Holden climbs to the top of the alien structure, which is hundreds of kilometres from their original portal entry point. Murtry and Amos are brought onto the Rocinante and recover. The settlers on Ilus decide to stay, planning to together to rebuild the settlement and continue research. Murtry and Lucia are to stand trial for their respective crimes, but Holden sets Lucia free, reporting that she died in space as if Naomi had not rescued her. While the Israel remains in orbit, the Rocinante and the Barbapiccola head back to the Solar System. The Rocinante crew remove the small piece of protomolecule still on their ship (which Miller had informed Holden of) and fire it into Ilus’ sun. Gao wins the election. On Mars, just before the gang’s job, Bobbie discerns but fails to prevent an ambush in which Esai and most other members are killed. She, in a message for Avasarala, notifies her of Martians trafficking military weapons with Belters and accepts her job offer. Ashford learns of the trafficking himself before finding Inaros and boarding his ship. After a firefight between their crews, Ashford corners Inaros, only to be ambushed by Filip, Inaros’ right hand and his and Naomi’s son. Ashford secretly records his conversation with Inaros, managing to send it out as a message before Inaros drops him out the spacelock to his death. Inaros launches asteroids cloaked with Martian stealth technology along vectors into Earth’s asteroid defence blind spots saying, “They’ll never see it coming.” In Inaros’ tactical display, eight trajectories are seen intersecting the Earth’s orbit in sequence.
