13 In De Oorlag (2010): S01E12 – Liberation

13 in de Oorlag (13 in the War) is a docudrama about young people in the Second World War. In each episode, the war experience of a 13-year-old is central.

Lisa Wade is in Wageningen at the place where the negotiations about peace in the Netherlands took place. In Hotel de Wereld she sits at the table where those discussions took place. When the surrender of the German troops in the Netherlands is signed, the whole country celebrates. Allied troops are greeted by thousands on the side of the road, children ride on tanks, are given chewing gum and chocolate from the soldiers and there are parties for days on end. But not by a young German soldier Jurgen (16 years old), who believed in his Führer.
