Human Weapon (2007): S01E04 – Savate Streetfighting

Introduction

Human Weapon is a television show on The History Channel that premiered on 20 July 2007.

The hosts, Jason Chambers and Bill Duff, travelled across the world studying the unique martial arts, or styles of fighting, that have origins in the region.

Outline

Hosts Jason Chambers and Bill Duff are in France, to study the combat art of Savate. Literally translated to mean “old boot,” Savate developed through necessity.

Savate, also known as boxe française, savate boxing, French boxing or French footfighting, is a French kickboxing combat sport that uses the hands and feet as weapons combining elements of English boxing with graceful kicking techniques.

Only foot kicks are allowed, unlike some systems such as Muay Thai, which allow the use of the knees or shins. Savate is a French word for “old shoe or boot”. Savate fighters wear specially designed boots. A male practitioner of savate is called a tireur while a female is called a tireuse.
