Outline

Bochkin is given a newspaper with the ill-fated photograph of Katya, allegedly the bride of the division commander. Bochkin is upset. Katya asks Kuzin to tell everyone that this is not true. Kuzin says that this is no longer possible, asks to calm down. He is sure that soon everyone will forget about it.

And Markin, it seems, really fell in love with Dina. He informs his wife Anya that he has decided to divorce her. Dina begs Pasha to come. Katya asks Bochkin to let her go to Sevastopol on a personal matter. Bochkin thinks that Katya has a date there.
