Introduction

Combat! is an American television drama series that originally aired on ABC from 1962 until 1967. The exclamation point in Combat! was depicted on-screen as a stylised bayonet. The show covered the grim lives of a squad of American soldiers fighting the Germans in France during World War II.

Outline

A British unit holding a depot doesn’t know that Allied units around them are retreating from a Nazi offensive, because the Brits’ radio is broken. Sergeant Saunders’ squad can not join the pullback, because Lieutenant Hanley orders Saunders’ crew to march to the railhead in France, to let the Brits know they are being surrounded.
