Introduction

Barry is an American dark comedy-crime television series created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader that premiered on HBO on 25 March 2018.

Hader stars as Barry Berkman, a former US Marine and a hitman, from Cleveland who travels to Los Angeles to kill someone but finds himself joining an acting class taught by Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), where he meets aspiring actress Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) and begins to question his path in life as he deals with his criminal associates such as Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root) and NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan).

Outline

Sally confesses to John that she and Barry are fugitives. When Hank shows Fuches that he has Sally and John hostage, Fuches and his men go to Hank’s headquarters, where Fuches offers to disappear if Hank admits to killing Cristobal. Hank refuses, and a shootout erupts; only Fuches, John, and Sally survive. A heavily armed Barry arrives, but Fuches allows him to leave unharmed with his family before disappearing. Meanwhile, Jim and the district attorney hold a press conference to publicly condemn Gene as the prime suspect in Janice’s re-opened case. Sally urges Barry to turn himself in and exonerate Gene, but he claims that the three of them surviving means he has been “redeemed.” She leaves with John overnight, and Barry searches for them at Gene’s house. Gene’s talent agent Tom convinces him to come clean, but as Barry tells him to call the police, Gene enters and fatally shoots Barry in the head. Years later, Sally is a high school theatre director, Gene has been sentenced to life in prison, and Barry has been laid to rest with full military honours. A teenage John watches the biopic made about Barry, which depicts Gene as a villain and Barry as a tragic hero.
