Introduction
The battle Against Rome is a history documentary hosted by Andrew Solomon. It was published by the History Channel in 2009 and has English narration.
Also known as (Gruppe 5 title) “Arminius: Enemy of Rome” or “Kampf um Germanien”, and The Battle Against Rome: Rebellion of the Germanic Tribes.

Outline (General)
This documentary portrays one of the most devastating battles of ancient times: the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which played a decisive role in shaping modern-day Europe. It was the worst defeat ever suffered by the Roman Empire: 30,000 men cut down in the forests of Germania, betrayed by Arminius, a man the Romans had trained and trusted.
Arminius – born as the son of a Cheruscan, abducted as a pawn of the Romans, and raised as a soldier, he returns to subdued Germania under Emperor Augustus. He makes himself the leader of the revolt against Rome, resulting in the destruction of the legions of Varus’ in the year 9 AD.
On the side of Arminius’, the audience will experience the “clash of cultures” between the Romans and Germania. In a memorable television event, we accompany him from the simple mud hut of his father to ancient Rome, from the plains of Pannonia to battlefields in the gorges of the Teutoburg Forest.
Outline (Part 01)
Since the 15th century, Arminius has been glorified as a German national hero. But who was “Hermann The Cheruscan” under whom Germanic tribes defeated three Roman legions at the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD? Where did he come from? And how did he betray the Romans under General Varus so they never again attempted to conquer Germanic territory east of the Rhine River?
