Introduction

Apocalypse, the First World War is a series of five documentary films chronicling the history of the First World War, from its origins to the end of the war.

It was made after World War II Apocalypse and Apocalypse Hitler, and before Apocalypse Stalin, also by Isabelle Clarke and Daniel Costelle, and narrated by Mathieu Kassovitz. It gathers known or unpublished period documents and tells the great events of the war, from restored and coloured archive images. She is part of the Apocalypse series.

Broadcast on the One (RTBF) from 02 March 2014 to 16 March 2014, it airs on France 2 from 18 March 2014 to 01 April 2014, and in Canada on TV5 Québec Canada in May 2014.

Outline of Part 03

The war is raging in Europe and stretches from the trenches in France to the Italian Alps and the Balkans, and beyond to the gates of the Eastern world.

The conflict becomes industrial, and millions of shells rain down on the battlefields; Verdun and the Somme are the deadliest battles in this second year of the war.
