Introduction

It Ain’t Half Hot, Mum is a BBC television sitcom about a Royal Artillery concert party based in Deolali in India and the fictional village of Tin Min in Burma, during the last months of the Second World War.
The title comes from the first episode, in which young Gunner Parkin (Christopher Mitchell) writes home to his mother in England.
Outline
A new, highly jingoistic, district commissioner is arriving and Ashwood has written a pageant to entertain him, extolling the virtues of the British in India. Everybody else concedes that it is dreadful but, no matter, their guest will enjoy it. However, the commissioner cannot come and sends his deputy, the Indian Mr. Patel. Hasty adjustments need to be made to the performance, cutting it to only four minutes long and leading Mr. Patel to claim that British culture is a mystery to the Indians.
