Introduction

It Ain’t Half Hot, Mum is a BBC television sitcom about a Royal Artillery concert party based in Deolali in India and the fictional village of Tin Min in Burma, during the last months of the Second World War.

The title comes from the first episode, in which young Gunner Parkin (Christopher Mitchell) writes home to his mother in England.

Outline

A load of Christmas puddings are dropped by air into the camp, each with the name of a high-ranking officer on them. Captain Bishop arrives and requests that the puddings be given to him but a second officer reveals that Bishop is an impostor, who wants to sell the puddings on the black market. The puddings are returned but it would be bad publicity if it was known that some officers were being awarded preferential treatment and given their own Christmas puddings, so they are given to the audience to eat and destroy the evidence, whilst Rangi keeps several for himself.

One response to “It Ain’t Half Hot Mum (1977): S05E04 – Puddings from Heaven”

  1. The audience of soldiers watching the concert and eating the pies was supplied by 29 platoon Junior parachute company in Aldershot, The film crew were a bit miffed when we turned up as we were so young 16 to 17, not the hardened jungle fighters they were hoping for. Happy days got to eat Christmas pudding all day instead of log runs…..
