Introduction

Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles is a 1999-2000 CGI animated television series, based on the 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein and the 1997 film adaptation.

It follows the exploits of the Mobile Infantry squad, “Razak’s Roughnecks,” during the SICON–Bugs War between a newly united humanity and an extraterrestrial race, known as the “Bugs,” also sometimes referred to as Arachnids.

The show focuses mainly on the Roughnecks’ missions, rather than addressing the larger war.

Tesca Nemerosa: Day 45.

After Gossard receives a minor injury, Rico is assigned a marauder suit for the Roughneck’s next mission: they are heading upriver to capture a Brain Bug. But there is no Brain there.

Instead they find a “nursery” for the creation of new and dangerous species.

Razak calls in an airstrike, but Rico is separated from the squad as his Marauder runs out of juice.

They rescue him before the airstrike, but not before a Jungle Spider impales him. It is touch and go as to whether Rico will survive.
