Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles is a 1999-2000 CGI animated television series, based on the 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein and the 1997 film adaptation.
It follows the exploits of the Mobile Infantry squad, “Razak’s Roughnecks,” during the SICON–Bugs War between a newly united humanity and an extraterrestrial race, known as the “Bugs,” also sometimes referred to as Arachnids.
The show focuses mainly on the Roughnecks’ missions, rather than addressing the larger war.
Klendathu: Day 134.
The Roughnecks are facing a “Battle of the Bulge” situation on the Bug home planet of Klendathu.
They have been ordered to hold the line against an inevitable (and overwhelming) Bug siege. The odds of surviving are not in their favour.
Throughout the night, Higgins winds up taping a series of heartfelt “goodbyes” from each of the Troopers to their various loved ones.
When day break comes, the Troopers are able to hold off the Bug horde long enough to be saved by massive air strike, but the “goodbyes” leave a lasting impression on them all.
