Afghanistan: The Wounded Land Documentary Series Overview (2020)

Introduction

In the early 1970’s Afghanistan was at a cross road between modernity and tradition, and Islam and Communism. When the communists seized power, the contradictions exploded and a never-ending war began.

Also known as Afghanistan: Das verwundete Land (original German title) and Afghanistan: The Injured Country (Informal literal English title).

Outline

A look at 40 years of war through the eyes of those who suffer most from it – the women of Afghanistan. The documentary begins in the 1960s, when peace reigns in the Kingdom of Afghanistan. When the communists take power, an endless war begins that changes the face of Afghanistan. Women become pawns in ideological battles. After 11 September 2001 (aka 9/11), Afghan women hope for the return of peace. They want to take their fate into their own hands, but the spiral of violence continues to this day.
