Introduction
Das Boot is a 2018 German television series produced for the TV channel Sky and a sequel to Das Boot (1981).
Like the original film, the series is based on Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s 1973 book Das Boot, but with additions from Buchheim’s 1995 sequel Die Festung.

Outline
Not long after the Grubers’ return to Germany from Portugal, Gustav is entrapped and imprisoned for his homosexuality. In Kiel, at the funeral for Wilhelm, Ehrenberg offers Klaus his condolences and support in their work as agents of Fidelio. Sneaking into the Kriegsmarine war room and Gluck’s office after hours, Klaus captures the secrets of U-boat production and strategy on his miniature camera. At a meeting with the Women’s League group in Berlin headed by Major General Werner, Hannie’s proposal for a national strategy to foster the children victims of bombing is rejected. Later, Schulz and Koch plant doubts in her mind, inventing that it was Klaus who caused Wilhelm’s heart attack at the cinema when they argued about his spying for America. Entering the Strait of Gibraltar, U-949 rides submerged for six hours to evade ASDIC on the denser and more saline currents along the bottom of the sea. With only three torpedoes left, Erdmann persuades Buchner to proceed with the mission to disrupt the Allied supply lines to Sicily. Surfacing in the dark in the Mediterranean Sea, U-949 is at the edge of an overcrowded supply line. Moments after Pauli reports to Buchner that Erdmann is the ‘rat’ they have been looking for, an enemy plane torpedoes U-949 and destroys it.
