Outline

While Captain Freeman undergoes a trial for allegedly detonating a bomb on Pakled Planet, the Cerritos is impounded in a space dock, and its crew is placed on leave. Though her father asks her to trust the system to prove her mother innocent, Mariner gathers Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford to help her hijack an amusement park spaceship to enter space and board the Cerritos in search of evidence to clear Freeman’s name. When their efforts are investigated by Starfleet security, they are saved by the arrival of the recently exonerated Freeman and the senior crew, who explain that Starfleet’s undercover operations determined that the Pakleds framed Freeman in a bid to force Starfleet to compensate them with a new, more advantageous home planet. Freeman puts Mariner under Ransom’s direct supervision, with him in charge of deciding whether she will remain in Starfleet.
